Despite our pre-ordering “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” from Amazon.com and not paying for shipping, we still got our copy in the mail on the release date (Saturday). My wife’s been making great progress, even though she spends most of her time entertaining our daughter, but I’m just starting chapter 4. I have the audiobook for listening at work, so I should finally get a chance to dig in now that the weekend is over. I know audiobooks are viewed as some kind of evil by many, but it’s really no different then taking turns reading a book out loud with another person…except that I never take a turn. I still prefer reading books, but with the excellent production quality of the Harry Potter audiobooks, and with all the time I have at work doing things that don’t’ distract from listening to headphones, it’s hard to resist such a convenience.
I will post here and say thanks for putting up a spoiler warning on the most recent post. M & I are not done with the book yet (only through ch. 19, actually), so we’re still in suspense. I’ve sort of resigned myself to the fact that I may find out the ending before I’ve finished, but thanks for the extra effort of the spoiler warning.
No problem. In fact, I was writing about events in Chapter 14 and 15 (and even then, nothing very specific), so you can even feel free to go ahead and read it. 🙂
As a soon-to-be member of the literati (Lord willing), I would like to say that I have no problems with audio books. Sure passing your eyes over the pages of a valued tome is preferable, but if you can’t, why not get the story without reading? The important issue is to experience great literature regardless of the method.
I praise your efforts to read despite your lack of time. Kudos to you, sir!
