Piddler On The Roof

The new Windows theme for Firefox 3 is growing on me as it takes shape through the different beta versions. But what’s with the yellow roof on the home icon?

It’s really bothering me for some reason, so I think I’ll remove it and just use “Home” on the History menu. At least on Windows Vista (what I have at home) the Home icon is the same color as the back/forward buttons and the refresh arrow.

  1. It looks a little better in beta 5… but I’m still not really into all the shiny buttons. I like simple.

  2. Thankfully, especially once the beta and release candidate period is over and Firefox 3 is officially released, then the theming community can really go for it with more custom themes. That way, everybody can be happy while the default theme caters to the lowest common denominator (Microsoft-ish styles in Windows, Tangoish styles in Linux, and Safari loom-a-likes in OSX).

  3. I would get FF3 but none of my extensions work with it yet, specifically “Foxmarks”. I rely on that so much, but it doesn’t work. Those icons look cool though.

  5. Adam, I use an extension called Nightly Tester Tools to enable my other extensions to work in the beta. Most of their authors simply haven’t tested them in the new version and/or updated their code to say “I work with this new version/beta”. Nightly Tester Tools allows you to tell Firefox “don’t listen to the extensions, just use them”. All of mine work this way except one called FireFTP.
